St. John's Church
St John’s is a chapel in a community building built in 1915 in St John’s Road (corner with Richmond Hill), Oldbury B68 9RP

St John's has moved into a new phase of its life as the two Langley parishes, St Michael's and St John's amalgamated. However the church is maintaining a strong presence through the sponsored Scout group, boy and girl Beavers, Cubs and Scouts; and there is a monthly Family Service and Parade (second Sunday) which is set to continue.

St John’s is also currently used by Qur’anic classes from Oldbury Jamnia Mosque, Sandwell College, the Sihaili Women’s Group, Smethwick Girl’s Venture Corps (ATC), Star Performers, Sure Start, and the Tividale Photographic Club. Enquiries for use should be made to the Vicar.

Rood End Community Association have been invited to put a proposal to the diocese for local management of the building, and the confidence that it remains a central part of the local community has been shown by the recent provision of a disabled toilet and ramp from Smethwick Town Committee, a new heating system from Sure Start, and landscape gardening from Rood End in Bloom.

Like St Michael’s this is an adventurous project which could mark a new and fruitful stage in the relationship between church and local community. For those who are into regeneration or just care about Rood End this is a great place to be!

This parish is the base from which a chaplaincy is offered to Oldbury Air Training Corps: http://www.staffswing.org.uk/
